Human Rights Campaign
Challenge: HRC is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization. At a time of tremendous growth and transition, the organization undertook the development of a five-year strategic plan.
Approach: Schrayer & Associates facilitated a highly interactive process that shaped HRC’s long-term vision, including specific strategies for public policy and advocacy, outreach, communications, membership, and organizational operations. In helping the organization create a far-reaching, yet realistic roadmap, we worked with more than 300 board members and stakeholders and nearly 100 professionals. Schrayer & Associates continues to work with HRC to assess staffing needs, evaluate board roles and responsibilities, and provide strategy regarding various policy matters.
Results: HRC used the strategic blueprint to navigate through an especially challenging environment during the Bush administration, withstanding serious attempts to undermine previous gains, while still making notable progress on issues ranging from marriage equality to non-discrimination in the workplace to hate crimes legislation.
